I was reluctant to order the book because of mixed reviews - but I really loved it. Both main characters are so sweet in their own way and it's just heartwarming how clumsily they are at times. The pace is well balanced and the story feels like a magical adventure. I liked the contrast between the dark world and the lightness of the characters. Still, they have enough depth. And seriously, a demon transforming into a cat? You just have to love Silas.

Eines meiner absoluten Lieblingsbücher! Die Protagonistin ist einfach toll und ich liebe sie und ihr Schwert, ebenso wie Nathaniel der einfach ein bi Desaster (tm) ist. Es ist so viel wunderbares Chaos in diesem Buch, so viel Gefühl und Liebe für das Außergewöhnliche. Ich könnte es immer und immer wieder lesen.

Rogerson, as always, did not disappoint. I loved the representation in this book, from top to bottom. The story is easily followed, the plot understandable, and the characters well-written. The main character is everything we want: headstrong, brave, kind, realistic. The love interest is soft but bold, caring, magical. Those two were meant to be, and it's felt throughout every page. I recommend it for people looking for a light but passionate YA read!

This fantasy stand-alone is one of the best I've ever read. Margaret Rogerson delivered with this fantastical tale about new found determination, new found love and kinda saving the world. Not only the writing style felt magical, the characters were also an absolute highlight. Our protagonist Elizabeth is a very lovable and determined woman and the love interest Nathaniel Thorne was equally lovable and sassy (he reminded me of Howl from "Howls' Moving Castle). I had a blast reading this book and cannot stop recommending it enough.
