Jennifers Body meets Mean Girls but make it 80's pop culture
Funny, witty, full of pop culture references from the 80's with a nice touch of suspense and horror; Hendrix's novel is reminiscent of Jennifers Body a la Heathers/Mean Girls. At the center of the story we have teenagers Abby and Gretchen, the latter being posessed by a demon who proceeds to make her friend's lives hell on earth. Devilish posession clashes with adolescent drama and the emancipation of a teenaged girl trying to set herself apart from her innermost circle. Definetly a must read for a spooky summer! -

I'm possessed ähhh obsessed!
This is the perfect Halloween read! Stephen King meets Stranger Things and it couldn't be any better. If there's one thing I like even more then this terrific cover, it's the 80s vibes. I just love 80s horror movie vibes, the songs mentioned throughout the book.... and yes, there is a Spotify Playlist! I actually had goosebumps reading it and that says a lot. Since I didn't finish ''How To Sell A Haunted House'' by the same author, I was a little afraid I wouldn't like it, but now I can't stress it enough: I loved it! -

Major 80s Vibes
I have already read the "The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires" by Hendrix and I looooved the atmosphere in that book! So I hoped to get a similar vibe with "My Best Friend's Exorcism". It was pretty equal, although it didn't hit the same way for me. It begins slowly with a lot of explanations of the circumstances the characters are in and the dynamics between each other- which I definitely love. The more the story proceeds, the more the weirdness, unfairness and most of all the possession becomes apparent. It peaks, obviously with the exorcism, which honestly saves the whole book for me. Overall, I liked the book. It has strong 80s vibes and alone for that reason, it's worth a read :) -

By the Power of Genesis
I enjoyed this one quite much! The humour is top-notch and I loved the banters between the "friends". It's not just a story of demonic possessions and satanic panic, it's much more about growing up, letting go and how being alone is the ultimate threat. As many before me have already critizised, the actual exorcism is quite anticlimactic, but in the end this wasn't exactly what the author had wanted to tell in the first place (I think) - but I see how that is misleading. Either way, it's much fun! Only four stars because it had its lengths every now and then, the actual climax of the story took way too long to happen imo.
