This was a joy to read (pun intended). No, really, it's a great novella to read if you like the full trilogy of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. Orginally published after the firsts book was out Kill Joy tells the story of a birthday dinner among Pip's frined group before the first book takes place. They all get together and dress up for a 1920s inspired murder-mystery dinner. Everyone gets a role assigned to them and in each passing round more secrets and clues are uncovered. While Pip would much rather be at home thinking about her upcoming school project, her EPQ, at the start of the game, she is in head over heels by the time the last clue is revealed. While her friends feast on Pizza, Pip gets her first taste of solving a murder (more or less). With many referenecs to the first book and the characters of Little Kilton, Kill Joy is a fun read. You even get to read Pip's characters instructions and the clues she and her friends get from the game. Maybe you'll guess better than them who 'murdered' someone in the 1920s?

There's a Taylor Swift lyric for everything, this is one for this novella. I read this after the trilogy but I recommend doing so before. It's not a must, but it helped me get to know the main friend group in a "natural / normal" setting, which I imagine would be helpful before the trilogy. It's just a game after all... right? bonus: this explains how Pip got the idea to write her EPQ about the Andie Bell case.
