A Magical Hug in Book Form

Okay, where do I even begin with The House in the Cerulean Sea? This book is everything. It’s like a warm hug wrapped in magic, with a sprinkle of whimsy and a dash of heartache. Seriously, if I could live in this book, I would. If you’re looking for a book that’s equal parts quirky, heartwarming, and thought-provoking, then this is it. The characters? Chef’s kiss. Linus Baker is an adorable, buttoned-up man who just wants to follow the rules, and then he’s sent to this mysterious orphanage with the most unusual children. And I’m not talking about a kid with glasses who can make animals out of clay. No, no, no—this place is full of actual magical children, including a boy who’s a dragon, a girl who is a garden gnomw, and a boy who might be the Antichrist- Lucy. And then, of course, there’s Arthur, the charming, enigmatic caretaker who completely steals your heart (good luck not falling in love with him, by the way). The way T.J. Klune weaves humor, love, and deep emotional growth into this story is nothing short of genius. It’s lighthearted and fun, but there’s this undercurrent of profound tenderness and understanding. It makes you think about the world, about people who don’t fit into society’s neat little boxes, and how we should love them anyway. This book will make you laugh, cry, and possibly believe in magic again. If you haven’t read this yet, what are you waiting for? Go grab it. Your heart will thank you later.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    Charming, warmhearted and enchanting

“You didn’t know it was a possibility,” Arthur said quietly. “But those of us who dream of impossible things know just how far we can go when pushed to do so.” It was my first book of TJ Klune. And as I normally try to read books in the original language they have been written, I bought the English version “The House in the Cerulian Sea”. And what can I say… I deeply loved it. From the very first pages until the end I literally inhaled the book. The book is about Linus Baker, who is working at the Department in Charge of Magical Youth. His task is to oversee the well-being of children in government-sanctioned orphanages. His live is quiet, regulated by rules. One day he has to travel to Marsyas Island Orphanage, where he gets to know six supposedly dangerous and strange children and their headmaster. Not an easy time for Linus as he has to rethink all his principles and rules those have governed his entire life so far. Words cannot describe the miracle of this story. You need to read it by yourself. It is an enchanting story, unexpected and warm-hearted. It is a quiet story, masterfully told, you can feel every emotion, every heartbeat of the actors by yourself. The story-telling and kind of way TJ Klune tells his stories, is beyond comparison. Meanwhile, TJ Klune is one of my most favourite writers. For me his books are a guarantee for excellent reading pleasure. I know from the outset, when I start to read a book of him, I will be tied up, crashed into a story out of time. And when the story ends, I always need quite a lot of time being able to start another book. His books become a part of my soul and the stories leave a deep impression on me. No question… this book gets 5 really excellent points!

    My heart is FULL

T.J Klune created something beautiful. A home. Not only for his characters. But for the readers, too. This was such a comforting book! I enjoyed reading this very, very much. This book has it all: fantasy, found family, a cozy setting and lgbtq+ representation. Each of the characters in this book are so individual, with their own quirks and character traits that readers will learn to love easily. This was quite literally just like V.E Schwab said: ‘...like being wrapped up in a big gay blanket’. A wholesome, very sweet book that holds quite a few important messages. I’m gonna cherish this book like a button, and I do wish I was there. If you’re looking for something comforting to read, you’re definitely right here

A warm hug for the soul

Linus Baker is a simple caseworker for the Department in Charge of Magical Youth, that is until he is called upon for a special assignment. Extremely Upper Management sends him on a classified assignment to Marsyas Island to termine wether or not Mr. Arthur Pernassus, the current master of the Marsyas Orphanage, is still fit to look after the magical children currently in his care. Nothing out of the ordinary, but he still would have liked to know beforehand that one of said children was the Antichrist. And then he goes and makes the mistake of starting to care for them. The House in the Cerulean Sea is truly a hug for the soul, it's witty and funny and kept me hooked. I honestly wish I could visit Marsyas Island and meet Phee, Arthur, Lucy and all the others, go on a Saturday adventure with them or just spend an afternoon in Talia's garden. There's so much heart and love in this story, a found family of outcasts that worm their way into the heart of Linus Baker (and me) ratehr quickly. A queer, cosy fantasy where the mismatched, loving found family stands more in the focus than the romance of the main characters. I couldn't have asked for more with this book.

    This healed something in me

Such a sweet and heartwarming read! If you’re looking for some found family and a beautifully written queer romance with a pinch of fantasy, this might be the book for you. I had such a soft spot for basically any character in this book because they just kept melting my heart. The way the characters and their relationships developed was so well done! It did cause me a few tears along the way simply because it was so tender and moving. All in all, this is a beautiful, fun and cozy book!

    Found Family done right

This was probably one of the best books I've ever read. It was so nice to see Linus' charcter development. I loved to see him go from a stiff office worker to a loving father figure who would do anything to protect the kids and Arthur. The children made me laugh a lot. Their different reactions to Linus' arrival and the way they all opened up to him at their own pace was endearing. Arthur Parnassus was a very interesting character as well. Just like Linus, I couldn't figure him out at first, but I think the plot twist made him even more interesting. I can't wait to read more about them in the second book!

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

A book that feels like a warm hug /// Ein Buch, welches sich wie eine warme Umarmung anfühlt

The characters of this book are some of the most heartwarming I've ever witnessed. They will steal your heart with all their individual quirks, will show you what life and love is really about and will make you happy cry a lot more than is probably healthy. The book has a very character-based storyline, but it will be perfect for readers who enjoy exactly that. Especially for readers who enjoy that, the found family trope and a cute romance plot that feels cozy and wholesome.
