The Knight and the Moth

Unsurprisingly, but no less wonderfully, Rachel Gillig has managed to capture my attention with this book too. Her dark Gothic romance stories always end up in my shopping cart before I even get a chance to read the blurb, and so far I've never been disappointed! Her writing style, the characters, and the peak comedy she sprinkles in at just the right moments make me long for the second volume already!

We follow Six, a prophetess, who slowly comes to realize that her chapel is not what it seems... It all starts when she meets this broody knight, Rory, and their friendship starts with them cussing at each other and having amazing banter. I loved this book so much! The writing flows so well that I couldn't put the book down. It has a unique magic system, although sometimes very simple-writte.

The story is very mysterious and dark, with incredibly fascinating world-building that is very unique and special. The atmosphere is mystical, gloomy, and I absolutely loved the characters. Especially the chemistry between Sybil and Rory. Oh my god! But my secret favourite was the gargoyle, loved him. An absolute fantasy highlight, I cannot wait for the second part.

Rachel Gillig's newest release swept me off my feet in a heartbeat and won me all over by the end of the book. By far the most hilarous participant of the story is a talking gargoyle who made me laugh out loud SO many times - I even forgot that this story should be truly Gothic and dark. Whenever you expect him the least, my beloved gargoyle steps into the limelight and is spot-on in his observations. Apart from its refreshing humour, the story also scores by its unusual world-building, the relatable main characters and the nasty cliff-hanger at the end, which truly broke my heart to pieces. I'm already counting the days for the next instalment to be published and hope that Gillig doesn't make us wait for too long. The suspense is unbearable.

Oh, Gargoyle! I loved everything about the Gargoyle. The cheerfulness, the sarcasm, the whining. The Diviner and the Knight made me blush and giggle, I enjoyed the bantering alot (in my honest opinion: best banter I've read recently) and their dynamic! The story transported me into the stonewater kingdom in a way I had not anticipated.
