Otherworldly

Yet another wholesome story of Lukens with lots of cute and romantic moments as well as ‘found family’ feels that will sweeten your day. A boy who doesn’t believe in magic meets a very handsome familiar – what can go wrong? Ellery and Knox are really just two precious beans. Totally worth the read!

F.T. Lukens' books never cease to amaze me. Their writing style has that wonderful balance of suspense, romance and humour, which is always a big draw for me. 'Otherworldly' is written in dual POV of the two protagonists Ellery and Knox. Knox is a familiar created by the Goddess of Death who can be magically bound to someone asking for a boon from the goddess. Until their contract is fulfilled Knox must aid them in whatever they wish to achieve without having any choices in the matter. When that contract is closed his memories get erased and he's sent back to Otherworld. His most recent contract has lasted 5 years, during which his Queen has gone radio silent (rather unusual that) and ends abruptly when his 'owner' discovers the secret of immortality and, after a very brief jubilation, she realizes that with her contract fulfilled she now must give up her soul...oops? Before the minions of his Queen (who are acting mighty suspicious) can get a hold of the elixir of immortality, Knox snaps it up and takes off. And promptly runs into Ellery. Together they fight off the minions and then decide to form an alliance, to figure out what has happened to the Queen and why the land has been stuck in a continuous winter for the last 5 years (...coincidence? I don't think so!). All in all, ‘Otherworldly’ is a charming, light and easy story that sticks with you and warms your heart.

Ellery’s whole worldview gets forced upside down when they got literally run into by Knox, a god-created familiar. Together with Ellery’s family they protect each other from the god's servants hunting Knox and experience quite a few ups and downs. Beautifully written and with witty characters you can’ t help but love, this fantasy book quickly became one of my favorites. The found family in this one is exquisite and fills the reader with warmth. While packed with comfort it’s such an exciting read, I couldn’t put it down until I finished the whole book!

This is my favourite book by F.T. Lukens so far! The found family was adorable and the main characters were so so cute together. The magic system is kind of reminiscent of greek mythology which i always enjoy. I had such a good time reading this because it's mostly very cozy but the stakes were still alaways high enough to keep me on the edge of my seat. I kind of wish the book was longer so i could spend more time with Ellery and Knox...

Meet Knox, fimiliar to the goddess of death and Ellery, a mortal with no more believe to the gods at all. He's an absolute sunshine, they are the grumpiest person in town. Another book with tooth-rotting fluff that I could't put down. A wonderful urban fantasy setting with a grumpy x sunshine dynamic where you might need sun glasses and a thick coat. Perfect for every season.
